India’s agricultural exports surge: APEDA witness remarkable growth across multiple sectors
India’s agricultural exports have shown significant growth across various sectors, as reported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Oil Meals and Fruits and Vegetables notably surged by 34.33% and 15.10%, respectively, from April to November 2023. Basmati rice exports overseen by APEDA grew by 16%, with commendable performances in Parboiled Rice and fresh fruits and vegetables exports. Poultry products, groundnuts, buffalo meat, sheep/goat meat, Cocoa products, and alcoholic beverages also exhibited substantial increases in export numbers. Agricultural exports totaled USD 53.1 billion in the fiscal year 2022–23, with APEDA contributing 50.2%. In the fiscal year 2023–24, exports reached USD 27.3 billion, with APEDA’s share rising to 51%. The organization has actively promoted diverse products and explored new markets, leading initiatives for exports of various agricultural products and undertaking strategic steps to boost agri-exports, including preclearance programs and expanding organic testing laboratories. APEDA’s involvement in global forums like the Codex Alimentarius Commission at FAO highlights India’s active role in shaping global agricultural standards.
