ESY 2023–24: Oil Marketing Companies invite bid for 267 crore litres of ethanol production & ethanol fuel
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have invited bids for the supply of approximately 267 crore liters of Denatured Anhydrous Ethanol for the ESY (Ethanol Supply Year) 2023–24. Bidders are requested to quote for ethanol production from C-Heavy Molasses (CHM), Damaged Food Grain (DFG), and maize only. The tender specifies that bidders should quote ethanol quantities against OMCs’ requirements, feedstock category-wise, for the period of February 1, 2024, to October 31, 2024. The bids’ validity will be until July 31, 2024.
The quantities allocated under this Expression of Interest (EOI) will be procured based on the published rates of ethanol during ESY 23–24 as decided by the Government of India (GOI) and OMCs. The government aims to achieve 20% ethanol-blended petrol by 2024–25 and 30% by 2029–30, with the E20 fuel target advanced from 2030 to 2025. As of November 30, 2023, the country’s ethanol production capacity is approximately 1380 crore liters, with 875 crore liters molasses-based and 505 crore liters grain-based. To meet the 20% blending target by 2025, about 1016 crore liters of ethanol are required, and a total capacity of approximately 1700 crore liters is needed by 2025, considering an 80% operational efficiency.
